We will all die one day, but when someone else takes another person’s life we think of that as wrong in many ways. Killing is wrong. If you take someone else’s life in the United States of America you go to jail. Of course you must be proven guilty of that murder before being charged. It doesn’t matter where you live in almost every state, city and town if you kill someone you are looked down upon and you will suffer the consequences of that action. The question is, if murder is wrong then why is the death penalty okay? Is that setting a good example for society? If you kill someone then we kill you. There are several reasons why putting someone on death row is more expensive than sentencing them to life in prison. Associated Press (2009) says â€Å"They often require extra lawyers; there are strict experience requirements for attorneys, leading to lengthy appellate waits while capable counsel is sought for the accused; security costs are higher, as well as costs for processing evidence — DNA testing, for example, is far more expensive than simple blood analyses (p. 1).† Why pay for all of this just to kill? Why not let them suffer even more by staying in jail for the rest of their lives. Death by lethal injection is like putting an animal to sleep. The animal doesn’t really suffer. All it does it shut down your organs slowly and finally your heart stops. Is that really making the convict suffer by putting him at ease? Much of this is like Utilitarian ethics. Waller (2009) states â€Å" Utilitarians aim to maximize pleasure and minimize suffering for everyone (p. 52).† If we were analyzing this subject in utilitarian ways then the death penalty would not be ethical. Does the death penalty bring any pleasure what so ever? I guess it can bring pleasure to the victims family because they will have relief that the killer is no longer in the world with us. Have you ever done something so bad to where you think your life is ruined for good? My best friend Peggy and I experienced that feeling one boring night last summer when we were home alone. Last year I was know for â€Å"trouble†, I liked to fight and be the center of attention. I always had to make a scene about everything. Even though I was constantly in trouble with my parents, I never did anything that would put me in jail for a long time if I were to get caught by the police. My best friend was the same way.
